FACT: Michael Fassbender’s David is the best, most interesting thing in Prometheus (despite being cruelly failed by the script). Maybe if we are very very good and do all our homework and set the table without having to be asked, the sequel that is so clearly planned will focus more on David and what the hell is going on with him.
Tonight’s feature: Prometheus
Prometheus is a marvelous spectacle. It is a lot of fun to watch. It is not, however, underneath that topmost layer of flash, a very good movie. The script seems far more interested in metaphor and subtext than in telling a coherent, satisfying story. Don’t get me wrong: metaphor and subtext are great, but only (especially in genre films) when in service of a good story. If the story, what is ACTUALLY HAPPENING, isn’t compelling or is straight-up nonsensical, it’s hard to give a shit about what it means.
Prometheus is going to be fucking crazy, you guys.
