Dear Josh:

If you ever read this some day you will probably be like “Dang what is all that language on that soda can up there in that picture!!! Well Josh it is Turkish language! This is a soda from Turkey but I’ll be really honest with you I got it at a Turkish restaurant here in These United.

I know you have your thing about staying locked up in our old office at all times and never leaving, never even opening/unlocking the door no matter how much I plead. I’m still pretty sure I left my keys on my desk! I know I’ve asked you to check one more time and you said you have and please stop bothering you! And I’m also still pretty sure I could climb in through the window if you would just open it a little bit but I get it about not letting the germ demons in. I don’t even know if you can order this beverage on the interwebs though, it might be a thing you would have to leave the office for. (;_:)

It was raining and I was driving forever, you know how I kind of go into my fugue state if I don’t get exactly 200 calories every 45-53 minutes. I saw some neon lights in a window in a strip mall and my brain said PIZZA so I pulled in and ran for it. And then once I was inside I found out it was not even a pizza place! At all! The first tip-off was no Ms Pacman machine. The second tip-off was no pizza on the menu. Third tip-off was a lot of yelling at the owner about his supposed pizza-making abilities. Turns out it was a Turkish place. Texted “What is turkey???” to Gonzalo but I think he changed his number. Anyways I now have it on good authority that Turkey is a COUNTRY and they have their own kind of FOOD and also a SODA. Science!

The menu had bugs smashed on it, and inside the bathroom they had the kind of toilets that you have to touch with your hands to flush, and the sink faucets that you have to touch with your hands to turn on, and the bathroom locks that you have to touch with your hands to lock and then unlock, and the door handles that you have to touch with your hands to open so I want you to smell the heady musk of true belief when I tell you it was all worth it for the Gazoz. It has that tropical bubblegum thing happening that seems to be universally revered everywhere else beyond our borders. My first thought was INCA KOLA but it wasn’t quite as heavy. More like a Ramune with a little Sierra Mist mixed in. It was good. I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to just sit there and drink the Gazoz until the rain stopped or until you picked up the phone on the 100th ring so I could just hear your voice for 5 minutes. j/k, kind of. It was a long night.

Anyways all of this is just to say there continues to be a whole world out here. I’ll keep you posted.

Yrs etc.
