Yahoo in Talks to Acquire Tumblr - Adweek →
goldman: I had remarked a couple of months ago that Tumblr seemed to be focusing only on new features and completely ignoring longstanding bugs. I never posted this but I sort of thought the reason why they were doing this was so they could sell a larger base of users to a prospective buyer. I wonder if I was right. It was good knowing you guys.

Adventures in accidentally not hating yourself
I wore a skirt today, something I rarely/never do, and so catastrophic and absurd was my inability to grasp the physics of skirt-wearing that the situation blew right past the usual self-directed mental cruelty at my failure to do the most basic human things and just made me laugh. So that was good.

In 1845, a critic for the patrician North British Review decried [the work of Charles Dickens] as an unhealthy alternative to conversation or to games like cricket or backgammon. Anticipating Huxley and Bradbury by a century, he railed against the multiplying effects of serialization on the already hallucinatory powers of the novel:  The form of publication of Mr. Dickens’s works must be...

nprfreshair: Q: I wouldn’t want to be friends with Nora, would you? Her outlook is almost unbearably grim. A: For heaven’s sake, what kind of question is that? Would you want to be friends with Humbert Humbert? Would you want to be friends with Mickey Sabbath? Saleem Sinai? Hamlet? Krapp? Oedipus? Oscar Wao? Antigone? Raskolnikov? Any of the characters in The Corrections? Any of the characters...

I mean, I know I can’t recreate it. To think you can go back to a point in your life and start from there, again, is the dumbest of dumb childish fantasies, but I still do it, entertain this unreachable alternate universe, all the same. I think: surely there’s some point that hides a restart-from-save button, some moment that you can stick a lever in and ratchet the whole...
